Gordon R. Andrews, BSc; ATPL (Canada); ATPL (USA)
Gordon Andrews, Chairman and CEO of Canada West Aviation, has an extensive background in the aviation industry. He began a flying career in 1969 and has amassed over 15,000 hours of flight time in over 30 aircraft types, including Boeing 757, 767 as well as the Airbus A320, and A330.
Gordon has been involved in the development and launch of several aviation businesses; including Condor Aviation, which in 1980 with his partners, was taken from a small flight school and charter operation to a multi aircraft passenger and cargo operation servicing the automobile manufacturing and overnight package industry. The company was later sold to Interflite Aviation. Gordon was responsible for the transition financing and management continuity. Gordon was a key participant in the launch of Skycraft Air Transport in 1977, which operated a fleet of cargo aircraft. The company was later sold to a group of investors. He went on to start Toronto Air Cargo Terminals, Ltd., which designed a full service Air Cargo facility for the Toronto International Airport. This project was funded by a large insurance company in Ontario, but was not completed due to planning changes at the Toronto airport, which secured the proposed site for a parallel runway. During the 1980s Gordons expertise was called upon to set up and operate corporate flight departments for Tim Hortons Donuts, Canadas largest restaurant chain, as well as for G.N. Johnston Equipment, a leading distributor of automated material handling and warehousing equipment. In 1988, Gordon joined the team at Execaire, Inc., which supplied aircraft services to Canadas Fortune 500 companies, including Bell Canada, Seagrams, Ltd., Claridge Corporation, Abitibi Price, Shoppers Drugs, and the Federal Government. Gordon has participated in several presentations to the Canadian Governments Standing Committee on Transport regarding the future and scope of aviation operations in Canada and airline competitiveness. He is a published author, having contributed to various trade publications on subjects such as Airline Operations and Aviation Financing.
Gordon joined the team at Canada 3000 Airlines in 1990. Besides acting as a senior Captain and Training Pilot, Gordon established the airlines Safety Department and acted as the Manager of Safety from 1991-1993. In 2000, Gordon launched Canada West Aviation as a full service Aviation Consultancy. The first project the company undertook was the development of an International scheduled passenger and cargo airline. For the last four years, this plan has been refined and strengthened, as the company awaits the right conditions for launch. During this period, Gordon consulted on the start-up of a premium passenger airline in the Canadian domestic market. This airline is poised to launch in 2006. The company has also consulted with the new owners of Shaheen Airways of Pakistan, providing route analysis and aircraft analysis, and pro forma financial projections. The company also assisted with the proposed launch of another international carrier in Alberta, which is currently seeking funding.
Gordon also provides independent consulting services to Dundee Securities, of Toronto on matters relating to airline financing, and other aerospace projects, including aircraft manufacturing. In 2004, Gordon provided consultancy services to Westex Airline of Vancouver, including financing, aircraft disposition, and the marketing of the bankrupt airline to potential new investors. When new investment could not be secured, Gordon assisted in the disposal of assets and the winding down of the company. Gordon is currently consulting with a British Columbia regional airline, providing restructuring advice and marketing development. The airline has managed to turn around a loss and is now firmly established as a profitable operation. Gordon also operates a flight-training consultancy, which has an ongoing contract to provide Airbus training to Air Canada. He assisted Corporate Express Airlines and represented them in merger negations in 2004-2005.
Gordon holds a Bachelor of Science Degree with an Airline Management Major, having graduated on the Deans List. He is listed in the Whos Who of American Colleges and Universities, 1995. An avid equestrian, Gordon breeds, raises and trains purebred Arabian horses.
Mohiuddin A. Kamal
Mohiuddin Kamal, the President and Chief Operating Officer of Canada West Inc. He has over 24 years experience in aviation and aerospace industry in various capacities.
Kamal has extensive experience as a senior corporate executive in the airline and aerospace industries as well as in engineering design & flight operations. He has also distinguished himself as an Air Force Officer, Professor of Aerospace Engineering, Director of Training (Space Program), Airline Executive and Business Management Consultant. He is associated with the Canada West project since 2004 prior to which he was consulting for various businesses in Canada as a management consultant. Kamal prepared start-up business plans for three different airline ventures in Canada including a proposal for a regional airline in Nunavut, a low cost international airline and a cargo airline. Kamal is also a consultant to Business-icon Consulting Services in Surrey, B. C. for its marketing, engineering and other projects.
Kamal worked for Pakistan International Airlines for more than fifteen years in flight operations training, and with the corporate head office, assisting the Chairman and the Managing Director. He worked very closely with SABRE airline turnaround team as a member of the project steering committee. Kamal was a member of the four members steering committee for PIA-SABRE turnaround project and was directly involved in flight operations, engineering, training and human resources planning and implementation. He also looked after the flight services and flight catering areas and worked closely with Revenue Management and Fleet Planning departments. Kamal holds flight operations instructors certification from Civil Aviation Authority (CAA-Pakistan) and trained Flight Crew of Pakistan International Airlines, Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Navy on Boeing 747-200/300. Boeing 707, Boeing 737 and Fokker F-27 aircraft. He also has completed the Aircraft Performance Course from Boeing, Seattle.
Kamal served as Head of Training Division and Director Aerospace Institute, a post-graduate training institution of Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission. He also served as Assistant Professor of Aerospace Engineering in Pakistan Air Force College of Aeronautical Engineering, Karachi and supervised aerospace design projects of senior students. He worked with Plastex Corporation, Karachi, Pakistan as Director Special Projects while advising on turnkey engineering and hi-tech projects.
An Aerospace Engineer from Northrop University, Inglewood, California, USA, he is an expert in Flight Mechanics and Aerodynamics, with Graduate Studies in Operations Research, Engineering and Management, he is a Registered Professional Engineer (P. Engg.) with Pakistan Engineering Council. Kamal has conducted research projects in Aerospace Engineering, System Design and Project Management. He has many turnkey business projects to his credit and has also contributed research papers in various international conferences.
A Pilot (PPL-USA), Speaker, Writer and Poet, Kamal has special interests in Psychology, Media Affairs and Human Behaviour.
Richard Carlin
Richard Carlin is Vice President Sales, Canada West Aviation Inc. He began his travel career with BC Auto Association in 1969, where he rose to the position of Assistant General Manager. In 1981, Richard purchased Hagens Travel, where he grew and expanded that business before selling the master franchise rights in 1994. After a year of consulting to Canadian Airlines, Richard purchased Holiday Travel Consultants, which he grew and expanded before selling the business to Canada 3000 tour operation management team. Richard was retained as the President and CEO of the retail division. Canada 3000 Ticket and continued to grow the operation to 31 offices from coast to coast with a staff of 160 people.
Eric J. Gass
Captain Eric J. Gass is the Vice President of Flight Operations.
Captain Gass has been a career airline pilot for over 30 years and has flown over 20,000 hours, acting as First Officer and Captain for Wardair , Canada , Canada 3000 and other airlines. He is endorsed on Boeing 747, Boeing 757, Boeing 767 and Airbus A320 aircraft.
Captain Gass has extensive management experience, both within the airline industry and as a successful entrepreneur.
Rasheed Akhtar
Rasheed Akhtar is Vice President Business Development of Canada West Aviation Inc. He is a senior executive with over 30 years of expertise in International Trading, Management, Marketing/Sales, Strategic Planning, Business Development, Finance, International Banking, Product Development, Shipping and Administration. He holds a proven track record of accomplishments in setting up mutually beneficial trade agreements between companies in Asia, Europe and North America. He was instrumental in negotiating and setting-up multi million dollar trade deals between major oil refineries, petrochemical and fertilizer plants and Companies in: USA (Phoschem), Canada (Petrosul), Middle East (ADNOC, ADGAS, FERTIL,QAFCO, GPIC, KPC, PIC, SABIC, PCC, NIOC & others), India (STC, MMTC, NFL, GCFC, IOC, Reliance & others), West African Countries, and many Arab/Middle Eastern Countries.
Rasheed Akhtar served Feritchem Middle East, Dubai, United Arab Emirates as Managing Director from 2001 to 2006. Fertichem is an independent trading venture, which has consistently won new business, including that of bulk commodities, fertilizers and petrochemicals. Fertichem has also undertaken joint venture engineering projects in the Middle East with global companies for them to have a powerful regional presence. Rasheed Akhtar was the Co-Founder and Director Marketing of Transfert Limited, a multinational trading firm based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from 1985 to 2001. The company deals in trading/shipping client roster of leading regional suppliers of chemical fertilizers, worldwide trading in petrochemicals like Naphtha, Benzene, Fuel Oil, Base Oils, & LPG, food commodities and selected building materials.
Rasheed Akhtar is a graduate of Aligarh Muslim University, India, in Electrical Engineering holding distinctions. Interests include Current Affairs, Reading, Wildlife, hunting & Fishing.
Salman Kidwai
Salman Kidwai is Vice President Marketing Canada West Aviation Inc. He has a vast experience in Pakistan International Airline as Marketing Manger on various locations and served on responsible positions in the airline head office. He worked as Marketing Manger for three major travel agencies in Canada and is Managing Partner of a travel agency, which expanded its business volume to one million dollar with in two years from its start up.
Salman Kidwai is an expert in Airline Revenue Management area and has worked with the SABRE-PIA Turnaround team very closely. He completed his training with distinction and was an important member of the project implementation team. He was responsible for setting up PIA Offices and enhancing its business in Central Asian States and has expanded the business manifold during his tenure in Baku. Salman Kidwai has expertise and extensive hands on experience in many areas of airline marketing and customer services operations and has handled both passenger and cargo marketing and sales. During his career he established aggressive corporate goals and has surpassed them, contributing to the growth and expansion of the organization. His track record shows an in-depth understanding of airline business and innovative business acumen.
He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi University, Karachi, Pakistan.
Manish Bajaj
Manish Bajaj is Vice President Information technology Canada West Aviation Inc. he is an Electronics Engineer by profession and is a certified systems engineer and network administrator. He has a solid background in infrastructure development and systems management. He has expertise in Chain Management and Revenue Management areas.
He worked with a start up airline in Canada and was responsible for the development of its information technology infrastructure. In that capacity he worked closely with SITA, IATA, Flight Operations Planning and CRM development areas.
Bajaj directed all aspects of infrastructure design, implementation, and operations at greetNwin.com, a pioneering B2C site that rewarded its user for their communications activities. His team was responsible for organization design; in and outsourcing planning; analysis and selection of hardware and software; deployment; and project management. He worked as Director System Engineering, Infrastructure Development Consultant, Project Manager and System Engineer/ Administrator and held various project management and system engineering positions in international corporate environment in Asia and North America.
John Dzafarov
John Dzafarov is the Vice President Special Projects and is responsible for Eastern operations and special projects for Canada West Aviation, Inc..
John has acted in the capacity of senior marketing professional with twenty years of proven success in product and service positioning and developing strong customer relationships. He is well regarded for his strong self-motivation, effective communication and presentation skills. He has spent over ten years in the Tourism Industry, working with Airlines such as Quebecair, KLM and Tour Operators such as Jet Set Tours as well as having spent ten years as the Canadian Sales Manager for ABC TV 22, in Montreal, handling sales, promotions and public relations. His expertise allows him to work closely with business people at different levels, such as prominent members of the business community, associations, agencies, government authorities, and various media services. John combines established credibility in his profession with experience in personal sales activities, promotions, advertising, trade shows and public relations that spans nationally and internationally.
Sarwar Ali Khan
Sarwar Ali Khan is the Chief Financial Officer, Canada West Aviation. He is a career banker and has served in Canadian, Middle Eastern banks for over 15 years in diverse Retail/Corporate Banking. He has experience in one of the fastest growing, dynamic and technology driven international banking environment and has .several initiatives leading to milestones for major banks in the Middle East to his account.
He served as Banking Consultant in Financial Institutions in United Arab Emirates and advised financial institutions in the Middle East on planning their retail banking departments, developing operation manuals and policies, credit and fraud controls, training and education. He was retained by Federal Bank of the Middle East, Cyprus and Clariden Bank, Geneva, Switzerland, as Business Introducer where he introduced valuable, individual CIP and institutional clients.
He served as Assistant Vice President/Head, Card Division in Union National Bank ( UNB ) United Arab Emirates from 1999 – 2005 and Increased Division’s profits by 75%, contributing to Division’s income by 25%., increased customer base by 200% in four years.. He also conducted bank-wide training programs on selling and CRM, negotiated strategic alliances with major corporate in the country and developed unique payment products.
He also served in HSBC- UAE, Mashreq Bank, UAE, United Bank LTD., Bahrain and CIBC, Canada.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts, English Literature and Political Science University of Karachi, Pakistan.
